Ghost

Open-source publishing and newsletter platform. Pays 30% recurring for the life of the subscription — but you need an established audience and your own Ghost site to get in.

What it is

Ghost is open-source publishing software with newsletters, memberships and subscription billing built in. Ghost(Pro) is the hosted version, and it’s the one the referral program pays on. It appeals to people who want to own their platform rather than rent it.

The deal

30% of every payment a referred customer makes, for as long as they keep paying — monthly or yearly, and the commission rises if they upgrade their plan. The cookie is 90 days, the longest in this category, and it covers any visit to a *.ghost.org domain.

The catch: you have to qualify

This is the most selective program in the category, and it’s the thing to understand before you plan around it. To be approved you need:

  • your own Ghost publication, publishing original content
  • an established audience — Ghost says roughly 10,000 people or more
  • the capacity to make five or more successful referrals in your first three months

Accounts that make no successful referrals are automatically suspended. So the 30%-forever headline is real, but it’s gated behind a bar most affiliates won’t clear, and it isn’t a program you can join speculatively and get to later.

Getting paid

Monthly, via Wise or direct bank transfer, once you’ve accumulated $30 in commission. That’s a low threshold — the barrier here is admission, not withdrawal.

Who it converts for

Technical and independent-minded audiences: developers, publishers migrating off Substack or Medium, anyone who cares about owning their stack. A poor fit for beginner audiences, who will find Ghost harder to set up than the hosted alternatives.
