What it is
Semrush is an online visibility platform covering keyword research, rank tracking, backlink analysis, competitor research, content tools and AI search visibility. It is sold as separate toolkits rather than one product. Its buyers are mostly agencies, in-house marketers, SEO consultants and content teams.
The deal
Commissions are flat bounties rather than a percentage, and they swing widely depending on which toolkit your referral buys. The flagship bundle and the SEO toolkit pay several times what the local or social tools do, so the product you steer people toward matters more than the volume you send. There is also a small bounty for free trial activations, which is unusual and gives lower-intent traffic some value.
A quarterly loyalty ladder lifts every bounty, but it resets each quarter, so the higher rates require sustained volume rather than one strong month. Payment covers a referral’s first purchase only, so there is no recurring income here. Attribution also happens at account registration, meaning anyone who already has a Semrush account can never be credited to you, however they buy.
Getting paid
The program runs on Impact, so the withdrawal threshold and payment setup live in your Impact account rather than on any Semrush page. Two waiting periods stack: a transaction locks several weeks after the month it happened, then pays three weeks after the end of the month it locked in. In practice, expect close to two months between a sale and money arriving.
The rules
Approval is genuinely gated. Semrush looks for roughly a thousand monthly visitors or followers, contact details verified against a matching domain, and content in marketing or a closely adjacent niche. It routinely declines coupon, cashback and deals sites, unfinished or unlaunched sites, promotion via forums, browser extensions or mobile apps, and applications built purely on email or paid advertising. Self-referral and commission sharing are banned outright. All paid search needs pre-approval, with no bidding on brand terms or misspellings, no direct linking and no ad hijacking. Adult, gambling and hate speech sites are excluded, misrepresenting a free trial as a discount is prohibited, and FTC disclosure is required.
