Thinkific

Thinkific is a hosted platform for building and selling online courses, digital products and communities.

What it is

Thinkific is a hosted platform for building and selling online courses, digital products and communities. Customers pay a monthly or annual subscription, with a higher-priced Plus tier for larger operations. Its users are mostly independent educators and small businesses turning expertise into a product.

The deal

This is one of the few programs that states outright that commission runs for the life of the referral rather than for a fixed window, and it pays on renewals as well as first payments. The Plus tier swaps the percentage for a flat monthly amount, which Thinkific frames as up to $1,800 a year from a single customer. Commission is calculated on revenue actually received, so add-ons, feature upgrades and payment processing fees are stripped out before the rate is applied. Refunds, disputed charges and duplicate tracking can all be reversed after the fact. There is also a retention condition most programs do not have: you must bring in at least one new active customer every 90 days or you can be removed and future payments suspended.

Getting paid

Applications go through PartnerStack and are reviewed within seven business days. Once a payment reaches Thinkific it sits for 30 days as a refund buffer, then joins the next monthly cycle and becomes available to cash out on the 13th. So the gap between a customer paying and you being able to withdraw is closer to six weeks than a month. Withdrawals go out through PartnerStack via PayPal or Stripe, with other options in regions PayPal does not cover.

The rules

You cannot bid on Thinkific brand terms in paid search, and you are required to add them as negative keywords rather than simply not targeting them. The brand name is also off limits in display URLs and in any domain you register. Coupons and deals may only be the ones issued through PartnerStack, older offers from elsewhere have to come down, and “click to reveal” style wording is banned. Buying through your own link does not pay, and neither does a referral that shares your name, email, IP, domain or payout details. Cookie-stuffing, toolbars, browser extensions, iframes, pop-unders and traffic interception are all prohibited, as is contextual advertising on sites you do not fully own. FTC disclosure on promotional content is mandatory.
